The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) will not investigate VIQ Solutions over its handling of court transcription work performed in India, despite finding a "reasonable basis for concern" that the collapsed provider may have breached Australian Privacy Principle 11 (security of personal information). The regulator cited VIQ's liquidation and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia's own independent review as reasons not to pursue the defunct provider. Per the review, five employees of e24 Technologies in Chennai were given access to VIQ's Australian transcription platform between September 2025 and February 2026, with three accessing audio from 93 matters; the court's independent review found the audio snippets ran for five minutes, not the 15 minutes VIQ had stated, though the OAIC said this discrepancy did not materially affect its conclusions. The decision leaves Australian courts and litigants exposed to the residual risk of confidential matter audio held offshore, and underscores that a liquidated provider can be beyond the reach of privacy enforcement.
