Moldova's Electronic Governance Agency (AGE) disclosed that attackers exploited vulnerabilities in government services between 19 and 23 October, making roughly 11 million requests and extracting personal data tied to about 750,000 identification numbers — approaching a third of the country's population. More than 80 public services were taken offline as a result, and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said the incident may be part of a broader campaign, with authorities examining foreign-state involvement. No attribution has been made. The breach's scale relative to population and the sustained multi-day extraction pattern make it one of the most significant state-administration compromises in Europe this year, and a live demonstration of what concentrated digital-government identity infrastructure can yield for an adversary. Affected-citizen remediation and the emergency-service restoration effort continue.
