Defanged third-party indicators (abuse.ch). The defanging is deliberate: never click, resolve or fetch these values. An indicator corroborates a report — it never proves one, and its presence here does not mean this story's hosts are listed.
Kaspersky disclosed a previously unknown loader, NetamLoader, engineered to attack a customised Windows 10 build used exclusively by government agencies in Asia, and assessed the infection chain strongly indicates a supply-chain compromise. The first-stage payload was found in a CAB archive inside the Windows update package directory, mixing legitimate components of the third-party patch tool Patch My PC with digitally signed Microsoft assemblies; an AppDomainManager injection then walks a multi-layer .NET/XAML chain that patches the AMSI anti-malware interface, downloads additional code and phones home over encrypted channels. Detection occurred on a single system in the first half of 2026, the affected country is unidentified, and no attribution to a known APT has been established. The report warns that countries building sovereign operating environments must defend the whole custom supply chain, since an attacker with distribution-level access inherits the trust of every component shipped.
