Florida's Department of Education (FLDOE) disclosed on 30 October that an unauthorised party breached the Florida Student Financial Aid website, exposing names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers and dates of birth for approximately 4.9 million people who have applied for state financial aid. FLDOE said it became aware of the intrusion on 19 October, has taken the site down and contained the incident, is partnering with the Florida Digital Service and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and has reported the matter to the state Attorney General's office. The department said aid disbursements, tuition payments, scholarships, grants and loans will not be delayed. The disclosure follows the California education department's breach of all public-school students' data a week earlier, and a ShinyHunters-linked Florida DMV breach in September whose data was still circulating on criminal forums this month — three large US state government exposures inside a month.
