A cyberattack on defence contractor BAE Systems has disrupted the Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC), the platform that produces and transmits bankruptcy notices for every federal bankruptcy court in the United States. The Administrative Office of the US Courts said on Thursday 15 October that BAE operates the BNC systems and websites on behalf of the judiciary and that access was unavailable — including bnc.uscourts.gov, bankruptcynotices.uscourts.gov, notices.uscourts.gov and the National Creditor Registration Service — halting production and distribution of notices, paper and electronic. BAE said the incident was "isolated to the BNC system" and that no other systems were affected; the courts' office did not say whether data was stolen, and no restoration date was announced. The case puts a defence prime's managed-service supply chain inside a core administrative function of the judiciary and is a clean demonstration of third-party concentration risk: one contractor incident halting a nationwide court process.
